History

Three community areas share this ZIP code, and each began as farm country. Lincoln Square's truck farmers grew celery in such volume that growers called the area the nation's celery capital, and the Budlong brothers opened a pickle factory in 1857. Albany Park filled in after the Ravenswood Elevated reached Kimball and Lawrence by 1907: the 1910 census counted 7,000 residents, more than 55,000 lived there by 1930, and land priced at $52 a front foot in 1909 sold for $2,750 by 1929. North Park began as a village platted in 1855, where German and Swedish farmers grew vegetables along the river; construction of North Park College began in 1894, and the population tripled between 1920 and 1930 as bungalows and two-flats replaced prairie and woods. Korean business owners played a large part in the neighborhood's revival, and on October 30, 1992, the stretch between Western Avenue and Pulaski Road received the honorary name Seoul Drive.

The area today

The Brown Line is the spine: its Kimball, Kedzie, Francisco, Rockwell and Western stops each carry a 60625 address on the CTA's station pages, and Kimball is where the line ends. Roughly, Lincoln Square takes the east side, where Lincoln Avenue meets Western and Lawrence; Albany Park takes the center and southwest, around the Kimball and Kedzie stops; and North Park takes the northwest, from about Foster Avenue north. North Park University sits on Foster, and the cupola of its Old Main, finished in 1894, was a landmark for pilots heading to Orchard Field, now O'Hare. The ZIP runs roughly from Montrose Avenue north to Bryn Mawr and from Damen Avenue west to Pulaski Road.

Near the Kimball terminal, Nighthawk is a coffee bar and neighborhood tavern with a patio. On Kedzie between the Brown Line stop and Lawrence, WBEZ's 2024 Albany Park guide pointed diners to Noon-o-Kabab, a citywide favorite since 1977, and to Kabobi, which it called good for large parties, with a late-night menu. Golden Crust Pizza & Tap serves beer on tap with its pizza, wings and Italian beef near the stop, and Rockwell's Neighborhood Grill keeps a tavern room with TVs, craft beer and a patio near the Rockwell stop. On Lincoln Avenue, Block Club's 2026 patio guide lists Daily Bar & Grill for its martinis and a patio set against a mural. Block Club described PrimeTime Bar and Grill, on Lawrence's Seoul Drive stretch, in March 2024 as a sports bar with smash burgers and big screens.
