About the town

About Orland Park

How Orland Park came to be

The area now called Orland Park was first settled in 1834. The village was incorporated in 1892, with Senator John Humphrey as its first Village President. His house is one of the village's heritage sites and is open by appointment, and the village's Heritage Sites division collects the artifacts that tie Orland Park to state and national history.

The small-town businesses of the early village are still on the record. Loebe General Store opened on Union Avenue on January 2, 1898, and operated until 1969. Christ Evangelical Church was dedicated at 143rd Street and West Avenue on February 6, 1898, and Creer's Grocery and Meat Market opened at 9924 W. 143rd Place in 1914.

Orland Park today

The mall changed the village. Orland Square Mall opened on March 15, 1976, with about 1 million square feet of enclosed retail. At the mall's fiftieth anniversary in 2026, Trustee Cindy Nelson-Katsenes said it had changed Orland Park from a sleepy farm community into a thriving retail hub, and Mayor James Dodge made a similar point about a quiet rural place becoming a busy destination. The heritage sites remain as a reminder of the village before the mall.

The bar and restaurant scene

Orland Park's restaurants and bars sit in a village that became a retail destination within living memory. Near the mall, the room draws shoppers and people who drove in; in the quieter parts of the village, it depends on neighbors. An owner in either setting is working with a customer base that has grown quickly and keeps changing, and the regulars matter as much as the visitors. The Gaming Board record on this page lists the Orland Park locations that hold video gaming licenses.

Questions

Video gaming in Orland Park: the short answers

Does the revenue split change from one terminal operator to another?

No. Illinois law splits terminal income after tax evenly between the terminal operator and the establishment, whatever an agreement says, and no operator may give a location anything of value to sign (230 ILCS 40/25(c)). Operators differ in service, not in the split.

How long does a video gaming use agreement last?

Illinois Gaming Board rules cap a use agreement at eight years and do not allow it to renew automatically (11 Ill. Adm. Code 1800.320). If your location already has terminals, your agreement states its own end date.

How many slot machines (video gaming terminals) may one establishment have?

Illinois law allows a licensed establishment up to six video gaming terminals (230 ILCS 40/25(e)). The limit is set by the state, not by the terminal operator.
